Apito - Purchase advice

Apito samba - Brazilian percussion blog
Tips and information to keep in mind when buying an apito: tones, material... All you should know before buy your instrument.

How many tones?

A samba whistle with 2 or 3 tones is only needed for playing solos. As you need one free hand to hold the whistle, this of course is only possible if you don't have to play an instrument or need both hands for conducting.

A one-tone Apito is sufficient if you only need it for giving signals. They have a very penetrant tone, are low priced and easy to handle.

Plastic, metal or wood?

Plastic Apitos are very light weighted, which is pleasing when you have to hold them with your teeth to keep your hands free. All the more plastic is tasteless and cannot harm your teeth.

Metal Apitos are heavy and can hurt your teeth. On the other hand they sound and look beautifull.

Wooden Apitos sound less loud, but are perfect for small instrumentations or for effects.

The right form?

We recommend a whistle with a long mouthpiece if you have to hold it with your teeth over a longer period.
